16/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 July, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced that the EU member states' foreign affairs ministers had agreed "to use all (their) channels to urge the parties to take a step back, stop the violence, prevent another war and alleviate the situation for the people on the ground" at a time when Gaza is confronted with "a very worrying escalation" in tension. Mogherini also gave the EU's support to the work of Egypt and the UN to revive the Palestinian reconciliation. On 14 July, the military confrontation between the armed groups of the Gaza Strip and the Israeli army was the greatest since the end of the war in 2014. (CG)
