03/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 July, Dutch MEP Marcel de Graaff and French MEP Gilles Lebreton gave the support of the ENF Group to the Austrian Presidency of the EU Council concerning Turkey. The Austrian government would like a stop to Turkey's EU accession negotiations (see EUROPE 12047). "We support the Austrian Presidency and the position of the Austrian government on stopping the accession negotiations with Turkey, which must never become a member of the EU", de Graaf stated, calling also for an immediate stop to pre-accession funds. Lebreton said there was "hope, situated in the Council". "With the Austrian Presidency, we hope the tone will change and that we will finally show firmness (...) this comes through an immediate halt to the accession negotiations", he added. (CG and SP)
