Despite recent ratification by Austria, new government in Italy poses threat to continuity of CETA

On Thursday 14 June, Italy's new Agriculture Minister Gian Marco Centinaio warned that Italy does not intend to ratify the free trade agreement between the European Union and Canada (CETA) due to its insufficient protection of Italy's geographical indications. He thus cast doubt on the continuity of CETA, which needs to be ratified by the 28 EU member states before it can be fully implemented.
