13/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 13 June, MEPs adopted a Council proposal to implement the remaining provisions of the Schengen acquis for the Schengen Information System (SIS) in Bulgaria and Romania, two countries that are already partly involved in the SIS. The Council decision would remove the last remaining restrictions involving the use of the SIS by these two countries, which are not yet members of the area of free movement. These new access provisions will mean that Bulgaria and Romania will be obliged to refuse entry or leave to remain on their respective territories to third country nationals for whom an entry ban has been issued by another member state. The two countries will also be obliged to disseminate these alerts. The text was prepared by Monica Macovei (ECR, Romania) and was adopted with 591 votes in favour, 68 votes against and 31 abstentions. (SP)
