On Wednesday 30 May, the European Parliament called for elections to be held in Libya by the end of 2018. In Paris the previous day, the prime minister of the Libyan national unity government Fayez al-Sarraj, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the president of the Chamber of Representatives Aguila Salah, and the president of the State Council Khaled al-Mechri committed to the organisation of such elections on 10 December.
