EPP group in Parliament criticises Slovak police practices with journalists

17/05/2018 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 17 May, the President of the EPP group at the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, from Germany, condemned the behaviour of the Slovak police towards Czech journalist, Pavla Holcová, whose telephone was seized during a convocation. Ms Holcová was the friend and fellow journalist of the assassinated journalist, Ján Kuciak. Mr Weber said, “I find it unacceptable that the Slovak police demanded, subject to financial penalties, access to the passwords relating to private and professional conversations and mobile telephone data that are not related to subject of the police enquiry”. The Czech journalist had gone to the police thinking that she had been invited to help in the enquiries into the murder of Mr Kuciak. Mr Weber added that the scandalous procedures pursued by the Slovak police is proof that the protection of journalists in the European Union deserves our entire attention”(SP)
