17/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – With Parliament having just adopted its position on the legislative proposal to reinforce the supervision of EU and third-country central counterparties (CCP) (see EUROPE 12021), all eyes are now on the Council of the EU. No agreement seems to be in sight, a European source said on Thursday. This is first and foremost due to the complexity of the dossier, but also to its link to another legislative proposal on the table, which is also highly sensitive: the revision of the European finance advisory authorities (ESA). According to our information, some delegations have concerns that an agreement on the 'CCP' dossier will prejudge the outcome of the 'ESA' dossier. If work on both texts continues at technical level, the reform of CCP supervision may be put on hold at the Council. (MF)
