24/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 April, a spokesperson for the European External Action Service said the EU takes "note of the resignation of Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan". Sargsyan's resignation was demanded by thousands of protesters and came a few hours after the release of his main opponent, Nikol Pashinyan. "It remains imperative that the current situation is resolved swiftly and peacefully. A national dialogue involving all political stakeholders remains crucial", the EEAS spokesperson stated (see EUROPE 12007), adding that the EU hoped to continue working with Armenia to implement the EU-Armenia agenda in line with the Comprehensive Enhanced Partnership Agreement unanimously ratified by the Armenian Parliament on 11 April, "with a view to consolidating democracy, strengthening the rule of law and protecting human rights, as well as building a prosperous and resilient economic and social system".
