16/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday morning 16 April, European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans met American-Hungarian financier George Soros to discuss "European and global" subjects with him, according to Timmermans' press staff. Timmermans hosted one of the main opponents of Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as part of their regular meetings – the two men having known each other "for a long time". The Hungarian-origin financier is the subject of a vicious campaign from the Fidesz party that is in power in Hungary, and that accuses him of wanting to expand immigration in the country. On Saturday 14 April, thousands of people descended on the streets of the capital, Budapest, to denounce Orbán's re-election on 8 April, which they say is tarnished with fraud. They demanded a re-count of the votes and a new electoral law. (SP)
