27/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans will travel to Romania on Thursday 1 March to meet both Justice Minister Tudorel Toader and Prosecutor General of the Anti-Corruption Agency (DNA) Laura Codruţa Kövesi, whom the minister has accused of serious misdeeds. Timmermans said on the sidelines of the General Affairs Council on Tuesday that he would meet both. He made clear that there was no question at this stage of considering the Article 7 procedure against Romania, which is still subject to the cooperation and verification mechanism. He called on the Romanian government to do all in its power to implement the recommendations of the mechanism and not to backslide but to continue to make progress in judicial reform and tackling corruption.
