According to a report published by the multinational Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) on Tuesday 31 October, the European gas industry spent over €100 million in 2016 to lobby governing bodies of the EU. It employed over a thousand lobbyists, and organised events at the European Parliament and meetings with the two commissioners in charge of energy-related files in order to "capture the agenda, with their own profit motives placed before the interest of the climate".
