31/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – The cooperation agreement between the European Union and Cuba will be provisionally applied as from Wednesday 1 November (see EUROPE 11823 and 11687). It includes a political dialogue on a number of questions, including human rights in the context of the power in place and civil society. The agreement also includes sectoral and commercial cooperation in sectors such as rural development, renewable energies and security. Six articles will apply, including the one on consular protection, once the agreement is ratified by all the member states. In its 2016 report on human rights and democracy in the world, the Council of the EU described Cuba as, “a single party democracy”. (MB)
