Minimum height requirement for police entrance exams discriminates against women

A law that lays down, as a criterion for admission to a police school for the 2007/8 academic year, a minimum height requirement (1.7 metres) irrespective of sex may constitute unlawful discrimination against women, said the European Court of Justice on Wednesday 18 October in case C-409/16.

Greek national Maria-Eleni Kalliri was not allowed to enter the entrance exam for the Greek police for the academic year 2007-8 because she was not tall enough (hadn’t reached 1.7 metres).
