Estonian Presidency of the EU Council wants to allow multinationals to omit information from their public reports

On Wednesday 11 October, the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU made a proposal to the member states for businesses alone to decide whether to omit certain information from their public country-by-country reports.

In a previous version of the text, a 'comply or explain' clause was brought in. This system aimed to allow businesses not to apply the provisions of the directive if they explain why they did not wish to do so. For its part, the European Parliament opted for a safeguard...
