EU calls for sentence of Crimean Tatar chief to be reversed

On Thursday 28 September, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) criticised the sentence of two years' imprisonment given by a court in Crimea to Ilmi Umerov, the Crimean Tatar leader and deputy chair of the Mejlis.  The EEAS spokesperson called for the sentence to be reversed.

"The European Union does not recognise the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation and therefore does not recognise this 'court' and its sentence", the EEAS...
