22/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release on Thursday 21 September, the GNSS Agency (GSA) welcomed the launch of a new receiver (BMC47755) capable of supporting the dual frequencies developed by Broadcom Limited, and which is compatible with Galileo frequencies. According to the agency, this new receiver will be able to provide centimetre accuracy with minimal power consumption and footprint. Until now, mobile location based applications have been powered by single frequency GNSS receivers operating under stringent battery power and footprint constraints. The agency notes that the Galileo constellation has helped expand the availability of L1/E1 and L5/E5 frequencies and drastically improve geo-location precision that can make it a major differentiator in this potentially “huge” market. The GNSS Agency is experiencing a particularly good period at the moment and has recently announced the compatibility of the new iPhones with Galileo-provided services (see EUROPE 11865). (PH)
