European Parliament calls on EU to address cases of three opposition members with authorities

On Thursday 14 September, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini called for the immediate release of Somphone Phimmasone, Lod Thammavong and Soukane Chaithad by the authorities in Laos.

All three have been sentenced to between 12 and 20 years in prison for criticising the government on social media and for demonstrating against it.
