Public consultation on establishing airline company blacklist

On Friday 11 August, the European Commission launched a public consultation to assess the results from regulation 2111/2005.

The consultation is open to all interested parties and natural persons concerned by aviation safety issues. This consultation will take the shape of a questionnaire that must be completed before 7 November next. This questionnaire seeks to assess the results from regulation 2111/2005 for drawing up a Community list of aircraft carriers subject to a ban from operating in the Union.

The regulation in question aims to respond to security concerns and aviation accidents, as well as provide Union consumers with greater clarity relating to the sale of aeroplane tickets. On this basis, the European Commission is publishing a blacklist of airline companies twice a year. This list was updated on Tuesday 16 May (see EUROPE 11789) and 181 airline companies are now subject to a ban from operating in the EU.

The Commission considers that the answers to the questionnaire will help it to identify the weaknesses and strong points in regulation 2111/2005. The questionnaire is published at: http://bit.ly/2vEq47N.   (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
