27/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – Jean-Claude Juncker expressed the wish on Thursday 27 that the European Commission of which he is president meet the Visegrád countries (Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia) to discuss the future of the EU with 27 members and issues that are of specific interest to these countries, such as migration and reform of EU rules on posted workers. Last week, the Visegrád countries assured Italy of their support while rejecting the European relocation mechanism for asylum seekers (see EUROPE 11833). According to the prime minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, the meeting will take place after Wednesday 13 September when Juncker will deliver his State of the Union speech in Strasbourg. Fico, keen to hold mini-summits, which deliver more in the way of results than full 28-member summits, spoke of a mini-summit of the Visegrád countries and Italy, similar to the one held with France (see EUROPE 11815).
