Member states should be more proactive in tackling non-performing bank loans, says ECB

On Friday 30 June, the European Central Bank (ECB) published a report taking stock of national monitoring practices and legal frameworks for non-performing loans (NPL) as of 31 December 2016.

“One of the key lessons of the financial crisis and the experience of many countries with high NPL levels is that it is necessary to be proactive and prepared before NPL levels become elevated”, the financial institution states in a press release.
