19/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – Discussions are underway between the European institutions, the French and German authorities and the family of Helmut Kohl on the possibility of holding a ceremony in Strasbourg, possibly on the sidelines of July plenary session of the European Parliament, to pay tribute to the European accomplishments of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who died on Friday 16 June (see EUROPE 11810). “We would be delighted if this could be done”, a parliamentary source told EUROPE on Monday 19 June. The father of German reunification is one of three figures granted the title of honorary citizen of Europe, alongside Jean Monnet and Jacques Delors of France (see EUROPE 11344). (MB)
