On Thursday 15 June, the European Police Office (Europol) announced in a new report that the number of jihadist terrorist-related arrests had almost doubled in the EU over the past two years. In 2016, 718 people suspected of offences relating to jihadist terrorism were arrested, as opposed to 395 in 2014. The majority of the total of 1,002 people arrested for terrorist-related activities were in France (456), United Kingdom (149) and Spain (120).
