On Thursday 1 June, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn hailed the election, by the Parliament of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) of the new government led by Zoran Zaev (Social Democrat). Nikola Dimitrov, a career diplomat, becomes the minister for foreign affairs.
Mogherini and Hahn stated that the EU is ready to support the work that the new government, as well as the opposition, will do "to constructively implement all parts of the Przino agreement and the urgent reform priorities".
They also said that they expected all parliamentary parties "to put their divisions aside (...) and work jointly on delivering, from the outset, on a common reform agenda that would benefit the country in its entirety". They added that this was also essential to bring the country back on its European integration path. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
