EU still world's leading public aid donor but still far from 0.7% of GNI target

The EU’s public development aid rose in 2016, for the fourth year in a row, to total €75.5 billion, a record high that in a conclusions document published on Friday 19 May is described by the Council of the EU as corresponding to a 10.7% increase in nominal terms.

The Council points out that the EU’s collective public development aid stands at 0.51% of the EU’s gross national income (GNI) and its member states have consolidated their leading place as the world’s top aid provider...
