In Strasbourg on Wednesday 17 May, the European Parliament once again vetoed the European Commission's plans to authorise imports into the EU of products made from herbicide-resistant GMOs, on the grounds of public health and environmental protection.
By 435 votes to 216 with 34 abstentions, the MEPs objected to the market authorisation for maize DAS-40278-09 which is resistant to the herbicide 2,4D, invoking the risks this herbicide presents to embryo development and endocrine disruption....
