The public consultation on the future of the common agricultural policy (CAP) having been closed since 2 May, the European Commission must now get down to analysing the 322, 912 submissions received (see EUROPE 11759 and 11779).
The results of the analysis will be presented at a conference in Brussels on 7 July and will inform the debate on the CAP after 2020. The Commission will present a communication on the future of the CAP at the end of the year.
The Commission’s public consultation on modernising and simplifying the CAP drew 322,912 submissions, with some 97% of replies coming from individuals and 3% from organisations. In all, 9.3% of respondents were from the agriculture sector.
Of the individual submissions, 7.2% came from individuals who see themselves as involved in farming while, of the responses from organisations, 77% are from the agricultural sector, 3% from the agri-food sector and 4% from environmental protection organisations. To a lesser extent, rural development, forestry, research, public health and trade organisations also provided contributions.
Germany supplied by far the largest number of submissions – 45% of the total – followed by France (12.5%), Italy (12%), Spain (7.6%), Belgium (6.4%), the Netherlands, Austria (2.2% each) and Poland (1.8%). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
