28/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 26 April, the permanent representatives of the member states approved the visa liberalisation regime for Ukrainian citizens. On 6 April, the European Parliament approved the regime (see EUROPE 11763). The Council of the EU is set to approve the decision at a forthcoming Council meeting. Under this new legislation, Ukrainians holding biometric passports may travel to the EU for a period of 90 days in any period of 180 days for the purposes of tourism, for professional reasons or to visit family or friends, but they may not work. The exemption applies to all EU countries (except Ireland and the United Kingdom) plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The regulation will enter into force in June, 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. (SP)
