24/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – Member state experts on the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA), meeting on Monday 24 April, discussed a compromise text revising the Council mandate on organic farming (see EUROPE 11772). The delegations were divided on a number of issues (including delegated acts on monitoring, groups of operators, non-packaged products and derogations). Qualified majority in favour of the revised Council mandate was by no means guaranteed at the end of the day on Monday. A simplified written procedure with a deadline of 25 April is in place to allow the Council to approve the revised by qualified majority. The aim is to facilitate negotiations with the European Parliament on the reform of legislation on organic farming. Trialogue talks are due to resume on 3 May. (LC)
