24/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 23 April, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service said that the EU stood "in firm solidarity with the Afghan authorities and our international allies in the fight against terrorism", as an attack on a base of the Afghan National Defence Forces in northern Afghanistan that was claimed by the Taliban the previous day left at least 130 people dead and dozens injured. The spokesperson stated that during the visits of High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to Beijing, New Delhi and Moscow, she had emphasised "the importance of the engagement of the international community, and in particular regional actors, in bringing peace to Afghanistan". "Only an inclusive, peaceful resolution of the conflict can bring the stability and prosperity that Afghan citizens deserve", the EEAS spokesperson said. (CG)
