The European Commission project to authorise three varieties of transgenic maize in the EU for cultivation or import failed once again to reach any decisive outcome on Monday 27 March in Brussels. The member state representatives sitting on the appeals committee were unable to obtain the qualified majority required (at least 16 countries representing at least 65% of the population) to approve or reject these proposals.
