EUIPO study demonstrates legal channels winning ground in battle to access protected digital content

23/03/2017 (Agence Europe)According to a study published by the European Intellectual Property Office on Thursday 23 March, European citizens are increasingly shifting towards legal channels for downloading. Legal downloads increased from 20% to 27% between 2013 and 2016. Around 41% of young people aged between 15 and 24 paid to access content by way of legal channels, which is 8 points more than in 2013. On the other hand, the percentage of people stating that they preferred pirated content remained stable, namely, 27% of young people aged between 15 and 24 years old and 10% of all participants. The study focused on a sample of more than 26,000 participants from 28 member states.
