21/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 March, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said she was particularly concerned about the budget cuts in US diplomacy. US President Donald Trump has proposed a 28% budget cut for the state department and the US agency for international development (USAID) – in other words, a budget of €34.9 billion for 2018 compared with €47.3 billion for 2017. "If the US significantly reduces its investment in humanitarian aid and peace and security operations, the world and certain regions will be completely destabilised", Mogherini warned, stating that the Syrian refugee crisis had started because the world food programme was under-funded.
