28/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – In her address on European Industry Day on Tuesday 28 February, the Commissioner responsible for the Single Market and Industry, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, said that she does not share the view that the Commission does not have an industrial policy. Quite the reverse, in her view, the European Commission “is an industrial strategy on its own”. She stressed that every initiative of the Commission takes the industrial dimension into account and highlighted the fact that the Commission always proposes sectoral solutions when necessary. This address is unlikely to go down well with some member states, which are calling for a proper trans-sectoral industrial strategy (see EUROPE 11729). (PH)
