20/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 February, the Council of Ministers of the EU adopted a legislative act on the revised stabilisation mechanism for bananas for the multi-party free-trade agreement EU-Colombia, Ecuador and Peru and for the EU-Central America free-trade agreement (see EUROPE 11717). The legislative act has thus been adopted. In a statement, the Commission pledges to assess the situation of EU banana producers by 1 January 2019. If serious deterioration in the state of the market or the situation of EU banana producers is found to have occurred, an extension in the period of validity of the mechanism may be considered with the agreement of the parties to the agreement, the statement says.
