PACE Bureau wants committee of inquiry to examine allegations of corruption

30/01/2017 (Agence Europe)Following a statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE)’s Regulatory Commission on corruption allegations against former and current members of PACE, the body’s bureau has taken a three-pronged decision.  It is calling for a review of the PACE code of conduct (already being examined in connection with the Liddel-Grainger report), for the Council of Europe’s Group of States to get involved in the fight against corruption (GRECO) and, finally, for an external, independent investigatory committee to be set up.  Finally, in relation to the third measure, the Bureau asks the Council of Europe’s secretary general to write a memorandum on the investigatory committee’s mandate.  The memorandum is due to be submitted to the Bureau at its next meeting, scheduled for 9 March in Madrid. (VL)
