The three EU institutions reached political agreement on Thursday 26 January on a compromise text simplifying provisions on the specifications of fishing vessels (recast).
The European Commission presented its proposal on 24 May 2016. The new text will repeal Regulation 2930/86 defining characteristics for fishing vessels.
The new regulation, on which there was trialogue agreement, grants the European Commission the power to adopt acts to bring the requirements for determining continuous engine power in line with technical developments.
The compromise text still has to be formally adopted by the Council, then the European Parliament. The new rules should come into force around the middle of this year. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
