The first plenary session of 2017, to be held in Strasbourg from 16 to 19 January, will be dominated by the election, on Tuesday 17 January, of the new President of the European Parliament for the second half of its term in office. President Martin Schulz is stepping down after five years at the head of the hemicycle.
The vote is expected to be extremely tight. A fourth round is entirely possible, as several sources told us on Friday 13 January (see other article).
