Member states hail Swiss law to curb mass immigration

On Thursday 22 December, the European Union and Switzerland found common ground on the legislation to implement the 9 February Swiss referendum on mass immigration.  At one time this ran counter to the agreement on the freedom of movement of people in force between the two sides since 2002, but it has since been largely softened in that there is no longer any talk of quotas for foreign workers.
