06/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 December in Belgrade, European Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, signed an agreement worth €80 million to support the transformation of Serbia's public administration. In a speech at the University of Belgrade, the Commissioner explained that this support sought to make the public administration “more efficient and transparent and, thus, improve the quality and speed of the services delivered...” Mr Hahn also explained that the Commission considered that Serbia what sufficiently prepared in the education and research sectors. The Commissioner said that he was “confident” that member states would reach an agreement “very soon” on the opening accession negotiations chapters: 25 in science and research and 26 in education and culture. It is possible that these chapters could be opened as soon as next week. Serbia has already opened four negotiating chapters. (CG)
