24/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 21 October, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Climate Change Agreement that was concluded on 12 December 2015 and is certain to enter into force on 4 November received the 2016 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation. The jury of the award described the Paris Agreement as an “historic milestone that enshrines nations’ commitment to achieving a universal model for development by reducing greenhouse gas emissions”. The jury also highlighted “the importance of this Agreement in the context of international cooperation, as a project that looks to the future to help all countries move together toward a cleaner and more sustainable model”.
