26/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – Echoing the words of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who spoke of the “need for a multi-ethnic, multi-religious democracy in Myanmar”, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said on 23 September that she was convinced that “it’s a challenge that we can face together, and we can win together”. At a meeting on Myanmar in New York attended by Aung San Suu Kyi, she said that she understood the “complexity” of the situation in Rakhine State, with the Myanmar leader being criticised for not doing enough to help the situation of the Muslim Rohingya people. “I know that you are working hard to find a sustainable solution for both communities”, Mogherini told Aung San Suu Kyi, however.
