08/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Danube Transport Day, Wednesday 7 September, Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu pointed out the importance of combining private and public investment according to the principle of additionality. However, she said that public investment should not replace private investment although the public sector could support the private sector. The Annual Forum of the Danube Strategy will take place on 3 and 4 November, which will focus on the theme of water and laying emphasis on research and innovation. In June, transport ministers pledged in Rotterdam to strengthen European freight corridors in order to intensify international traffic (see EUROPE 11579), and also decided on completion of the filtering of the section of the Danube that runs between Romania and Bulgaria.
