European Parliament conference calls for greater EU-Morocco cooperation

A conference was organised at the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday 7 September on "Boosting security and stability in the Mediterranean – Morocco’s role" and was attended by Moroccan interior minister Mohamed Hassad.

The minister raised the right against terrorism and his country’s contribution, stressing the importance of international cooperation in counter-terrorism, pointing out that no country can successfully fight the battle on its own.  He stressed that Morocco cooperates well with a number of countries, including in the European Union, as reported by MAP, the official press agency of Morocco.

Morocco’s role in all areas of cooperation (economy, immigration) was highlighted by participants, mostly MEPs. Rachida Dati (EPP, France) called on the EU to preserve its special relationship with Morocco, particularly in the face of attempts to destabilise the country and repeated attacks that never prospered.  She also spoke about the highly political ruling issued on 10 December 2015 by the European Union’s General Court opposing a farm deal with Morocco.  (Original version in French by Fathi B’Chir)
