07/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 7 September, the Council of the EU appointed 14 new judges to the European General Court and a new advocate general for the Court of Justice (Bulgarian Evgeni Tanchev). Seven of the 14 appointments are related to the partial renewal of the General Court that takes place every three years, whose term of office runs until 22 August 2020. A Polish judge and a Slovakian judge still need to be appointed. As part of the reform of the General Court that was endorsed in 2015 (see EUROPE 11445), six other judges have been appointed. A Belgian and an Irish judge are still needed to complete the second phase of the reform process. Swedish judge Carl Wetter will join the General Court following the resignation of judge Ulf Öberg.
