Hungary to host ministerial meeting on gas interconnection

07/09/2016 (Agence Europe)The second ministerial meeting of the high-level working group on Central and South Eastern Europe Gas Connectivity (CESEC) will be held in Budapest on Thursday 8 September. CESEC was set up by the Commission in February to build priority energy infrastructure and put in place the infrastructure that is lacking in the region in order to secure gas supply. The meeting will be chaired by Commission Vice-President and Commissioner with responsibility for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic. The ultimate goal of CESEC – created in the wake of abandonment at the end of 2014 of the Russian gas pipeline project, South Stream, that would have carried gas from Russia to south-east Europe under the Black Sea – is for each of the participating countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia) to have access to at least three different sources of gas supply (see EUROPE 11249).
