The Commission is expected shortly to adopt a regulation listing Oriel Sea Minerals from Ireland in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO).
Oriel Sea Minerals is the name given to concentrated sea mineral salts in liquid form harvested from the bay of Port Oriel, Clogherhead, Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland.
It is a concentrated blend of macro and trace minerals that is of a clear (sometimes slightly yellow in colour dependent on the time of year harvested) and slightly viscous liquid form. Oriel Sea Minerals are an excellent food supplement delivering a perfect balance and ratio of minerals to the body.
The Commission will also protect the PDO Oriel Sea Salt – the name given to sea salt harvested from the bay of Port Oriel. It is a fine grain sea salt, crystal white, and additive-free.
Two regulations were published in the Official Journal of the EU on Wednesday 24 August adding Pão de Ló de Ovar, a Portuguese cake made from eggs, sugar and flour, to the register of protected geographical indications (PGI) and Steirische Käferbohne, a type of bean from Austria, to the PDO register.
