24/08/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 24 August, a spokesperson for the European External Action Service called on North Korea to stop all missile launches using ballistic missile technology and to abandon ballistic missile programmes in a full, verifiable and irreversible manner. The appeal comes as Pyongyang reportedly fired a ballistic missile on Wednesday 24 from a submarine off its eastern coast. The spokesman said that if the firing was confirmed, this could be a further serious violation of its international obligations stipulated in a number of United Nations Security Council resolutions. The spokesperson added that peace and stability in the region require that North Korea refrains from any other action that would increase tension and that Pyongyang enter a credible and constructive dialogue with the international community, particularly the six-way talks.
