27/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - Two new European citizens' initiatives registered. On Wednesday 27 July, the European Commission endorsed two new European Citizens' Initiatives the 'LetsFly2Europe' and 'People4Soil'. The first proposes an abolition of provisions under Directive 2001/51/EC, which penalise transport companies allowing refugees to enter the EU via airplane. The second seeks to “recognise soil as a shared heritage that needs EU level protection and develop a dedicated legally binding framework covering the main soil threats”. The Commission's formal registration of the initiatives will be on 2 and 12 September, which will start the process for collecting the necessary signatures. (JK)
