27/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - Christian Berger appointed Head of EU delegation in Ankara. On Wednesday, 27 July, the EU High Representative for Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, informed the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavuºoglu, of the appointment of Christian Berger, as the new Head of the EU Delegation in Turkey. Berger is an Austrian diplomat and will replace Hansjörg Haber, from Germany, following the latter's resignation after a controversy provoked by a number of comments he made about Turkish nationals (EUROPE 11572). Berger is currently the Director/Deputy Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa in the European External Action Service (EEAS) and “has 30 years of experience in various diplomatic positions in different international organisations, including in the EU institutions since 1997”, explained an EEAS press release.
