NEWS BRIEFS / (ae) transport

04/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - Violeta Bulc wants real progress in Western Balkans. During her address at the Western Balkans summit on Monday 4 July, European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc said she regretted the scant progress made on the deployment of infrastructure and she said that “more” should therefore be done. She highlighted the railway network, which is in a “particularly critical” situation. As part of this framework, the Commission is exploring how it could help these Balkan states, especially financially, and it would also like to establish a “Secretariat of the Transport Community”, Bulc said. This would bring this EU region closer in the sphere of transport. The Commission is continuing to work towards this. Last February, it also adopted a new map for the extensions of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) including the Western Balkans (see EUROPE 11484). (PH)
